Oscars - best dressed?

I hate to do this as I promised myself I wouldn't hate on this blog (notice no worst dressed list).....but to be quite honest award season has been a snooze-fest (possibly because rachel zoe is preggo = therefore no grande starbucks = too tired to search for the ultimate to-die-for dress) ...there hasn't been one dress that I have hailed as Jaw dropping - the Oscars were no different. I felt like I had either ; seen many of the dresses before or the dresses were nice but not really appropriate... so if I must (and as a suggestion from my lil cousin-shout out to khet)

My best-dressed list, given a lack of choice.....

- i'm sure i'v seen mila's dress on halle berry?

Halle makes the dress beautiful - on someone else it would be avrg (and ugly shoe)

red on the red carpet - done sooo many times, there are so many bold coloured gowns this season..she could have ventured out a lil' more - BuT she looks well put together

lusting over...

these chanel boots (*lil smack on the hand...i meant (C)hanel)...need I say more.. i love how she's got that bam-im-wearing them-but just nje-attitude...

you wanna be boss? dress boss!!

I have noticed that young ladies in their 20's, dress in a manner that is... not exactly appropriate for work - ladies are often FAR too casually dressed or dowdy looking...the trick is to dress in a smart professional manner that reflects your personality - whether you work at a media house or within a bank - i've been raised to believe that you can never be overdressed...DRESS BOSS if you want to be BOSS!!

this means keeping
 : - no excessive cleavage!
: - classic styles - can afford to shake it up if you work in media (to a certain extent)
: - do try colour - how much depends on your work environment
: - invest in a smart jacket, heels, skirt, smart black flats (my dream pair are from ferragamo)
: - try print (but appropriate patterns) - e.g a patterned dress with a black jacket and black heels)

A little inspiration from rachel zoe and Victoria Beckham's new collection

and if its casual friday - smarten up the denim - i prefer a shirt with dark denim that has no coloured  stiching

New York Fasion Week - fav looks

From Preen

From Gucci (death by the gold leather belt)

For the love of Pleats

In line with the 'Romantical' mood i've been in since the wedding

There is something so whimsical ....yet slightly odd/edgy ...about pleats

As you can probably guess - from the Books i've choosen and posted- I'm quite opinionated whether its fashion or politics....so I'm currently loving the blog Middle Class Concerns (by Phakamani) - follow the link to get a fresh, and hilarious insight into Life as a young South African

Personal Fashion Strategy
- I have a fashion strategy: I'm obsessed with shoes and bags - so I would rather spend more money on those items and then the stuff inbetween - I shop high street. Although, I do believe in investing in classic pieces (esp. work items -pencil skirt, classic jacket etc.) as well as indulging in some unique pieces (espicially on Long street). -- Mixing high and low pieces (I still need to work on the 'high' bit) always works out more stylish.
My High street favs for staples-- Zara, H&M, Woolworths, Jay Jays, Mango, United Colours of Benneton -- to name a few.

Having said that I couldn't resist posting more pics from the H&M Spring 2011 preview...loving the colours and accessories!!

Me love me Some H&M -Spring 2011 !!

LADYLIKE with an EDGE

pics from the sartorialist and Karla's closet

.....inspired by the above ladies - Loving how the classic 'ladylike' dress has been styled in order to create a look that is 'classically edgy'

My Fav. Picks - from net-a-porter (I know right ...a girl can dream)
-- Love how the classic dress shape has been splashed with colour or deconstructed to give a more modern look--
